One year later, Every Door Direct Mail ™ is still shattering USPS® sales forecasts and benefiting small businesses everywhere.

(April 1)Tampa, FL – April 1st marks the one year anniversary of the start of Every Door Direct Mail™ and small businesses are still applauding the United States Postal Service® for it’s new revenue generating tool.

Started quietly as a market pilot in April of 2011, the target of Every Door Direct Mail™ is the seventy-seven percent of businesses in the U.S. who do not use a postal product for advertising. The creation of this low cost mailing service allows businesses to target every home in a neighborhood with their marketing message.

One year later, the results have been overwhelmingly successful for both USPS® and small to medium sized business owners.

“The most compelling message about Every Door Direct Mail™ is that it allows businesses to reach every home, every address, every time,” said President and Chief Marketing/Sales Officer Paul Vogel. “By targeting every home, businesses are better able to find the customers who matter the most — the ones right in their neighborhood.”

Printing companies like SonicPrint.com in Tampa, FL promote EDDM to businesses who have never tried direct mail before. By providing free training, design and printing services, business owners are able to harness the power of this great tool with little risk or effort.

Kendra Briggs, Sales Manager for SonicPrint.com, explains how the Every Door Direct Mail™ program changes the way that companies use direct mail.

“EDDM™ allows any small business the ability to deliver messages to their customers for 67% off the cost of a stamp. Combined with the elimination of the need to purchase a mailing list and the labor of labeling postcards, it’s easy to realize the immense savings “ said Briggs. “USPS® hit a home run with Every Door Direct Mail™.”

Once USPS determined that there was a market for this new program, they began to roll out an aggressive multimedia marketing campaign in March of 2012, including national TV advertising to promote the service, which is projected to become a $1 billion postal product by 2016.

Every Door Direct Mail™ is growing very quickly as businesses learn about it’s effectiveness.

“We’re flooded with calls from people wanting to learn how to use it for their business.” proclaimed Stan Coyle, customer service manager for SonicPrint.com.

To support customer needs, SonicPrint.com provides online print ordering, easy to understand pricing, and job tracking right on SonicPrint.com. EDDM Mail can be shipped directly to the delivering post office for a turnkey seamless process.

The U.S. Postal Service is planning to revise its mailing standards and has recently filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission to allow commercial mailers to include logos, trademarks, brand images or other kinds of marketing designs in the permit imprint indicia area of their mail. The Picture Permit Imprint Indicia offering will provide participating companies with immediate recognition of their logos, products or promotions while boosting the visual impact of their mail.

“This prime real estate area will allow companies to brand, advertise and market their products and services on the actual mail piece,” saidGary Reblin, vice president, Domestic Products. “Market research shows that customers believe picture permits will enhance the perception of their mail.”

If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the offering will be effective on or about June 24, 2012, for commercial mailers of presorted First-Class Mail letters and cards or Standard Mail letters. The premium for First-Class Mail letters and cards will be 1 cent per piece and for Standard Mail letters 2 cents per piece.

This is coming up soon. Would you pay an extra fee to put your logo in your indicia?

When Randi Slocum’s dog Kaylee ran away from her Stillwater, NY, home, Slocum and her friends did what any group of concerned pet owners would do — they formed a search party and knocked on neighbors’ doors looking for the chocolate Labrador mix.

But Randi’s mother, Carolyn, had a better idea — use Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) to notify residents in Stillwater and nearby Schuylerville, NY, of the dog’s disappearance.

Carolyn Slocum, a board member of the local Postal Customer Council, had just attended an EDDM seminar given by Albany District Grow Your Business Coordinator Natalie Dolan. “I knew that the best way to reach every household was through the new EDDM program,” said Slocum. “Since many people work all day, this would be the most likely way to reach them.”

By the next morning, Carolyn had the mailings prepared to EDDM standards and dropped them off at the Stillwater and Schuylerville Post Offices. The flyer helped unleash a series of phone calls, and that helped lead to Kaylee’s safe return.

You can mail postcards for 14.2 cent postage without buying a mailing list!

If you currently mail postcards for your business and target your customers by a geographic area then this new mailing program by USPS is for you. EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) is a new promotion being rolled out by the US Postal Service that enables regular retail businesses to mail at an astounding 14.2 cents per postcard without even having to have a mailing address. Sounds great? Read on…

Every Door Direct Mail Retail lets you market your business to every address in the neighborhood without the need for addresses or names. You save the cost of purchasing a mailing list and you save the annual cost of a postage permit. By eliminating these two expenses, you save hundreds of dollars on your mailing campaign. Combine that with a 66% savings in postage compared to a first class stamp and mail becomes the most powerhouse marketing tool in your arsenal.

Key Benefits of Every Door Direct Mail

No Postage Permit Required for EDDM: When mailing a postcard through the post office traditionally you need a permit which can cost as much as $450 just to open your account. This annual fee has been waived to mail EDDM Retail.

No Mailing List needed for Every Door Direct Mail: The post office is promoting what is called a simplified address so no mailing list is needed. You simply have to have the words “Postal Customer” and the post office will deliver your piece to the mailing routes that you request.

Large size card = better response: A Mailing flat is atleast 6.25″x11″ or larger size which means you have plenty of room to get your message to your customer. This is over 3 times the size of a 4″x6″ postcard and costs 9 cents less!

As close as your local post office: No need to go through the challenge of finding and understanding how to work with a business mail entry unit. EDDM Retail can be mailed from any post office and you can pay for postage with cash, check or debit card. You can have your printing already prepared and shipped to you and dropped off directly at the post office. This way, you get the lowest postage rate, and you know that your direct mail is being delivered quickly and efficiently.

Do you know what this is!? That strange square pixelated mess there is a website! It’s called a QR Code, basically a barcode, which your smart phone can read (with a free app)! Most recently we saw QR Codes being used at the Denver Airport. It was pretty cool, one QR Code let you download Moby Dick and other classic books. And the other day a customer made business cards with nothing but a QR code, having their name and number in the code, I thought it was super clever! Today a sonic team member thought it would be cool for their blog to have a QR Code, so they created their own QR Code here! If you do this and decide to print, make sure you save the LARGEST QR Code that you can – printers need 300 dpi files.

She made the front all cute and put the QR Code on the back! These cards are 3×3 inches. We printed these on the digital machine, which allows us to print low quantities very high quality! They came out awesome!

Above is how the QR Code scanning on an iPhone works! I just downloaded the first free QR app in the App store. Then you just hold the camera over the QR Code and it reads it automatically! So futuristic!!! I think BlackBerries have a QR reader built in them – fancy!

QR codes are popping up more and more! You’ll see them in magazines, and they’ll take you straight to a website! Give it a try now, because the future is coming!

Every once in a while we have to remind ourselves that the everything wasn’t better in the “good ol’ days.” Sure, the marketing messages that bombard our daily lives are full of sexual innuendo, over consumption, and generally bad taste, but did we ever infer that babies that drink soda are more likely to be social? How about that it’s ok to kill your secretary because you have a postal meter?

-Enjoy!

Because if my doctor chose Camel, I’d choose another doctor. I wonder if they meant they choose Camel because it brings them more Cancer patients? I digress.

This is a great example of how wonderful soda can be. I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen a 4 year old hopped up on sugar and caffeine. They look like the Tazmanian devil. It surely CAN’T be good for babies.

<img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-341" title="Sure, Just blow it in her face.

This one is dear to us because this company is in our industry and still chugging along. We’ve got pitney bowes mailing equipment and yes, it does make our lives easier. He seems really distressed that he can’t kill her. I mean, now-a-days, I could just see Donald Trump holding the meter and telling his right hand lady, “you’re fired.” But killing her? I think that may be a little overboard.

<img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-346" title="Because experts say that drinking soda is great for babies. Really? Is that like the Dairy industries got milk campaign? I like this one because laboratory tests show that soda drinking leads to more social behavior. We think it probably leads to A.D.D.

My question is, who is the marketing target here? Is it the man or the wife who uses it? If the woman is going to use it, why insult her? If I gave my wife a mixer…

Well, it’s that time of the year again. The U.S. Postal Service has proposed a small postage increase that, once approved, will take effect on April 17, 2011. While there will be no increase in the price of First Class letter stamps, staying at 44¢, there will be a 1¢ increase for First Class postcard stamps to 29¢.

For direct mailers these are the main price increases that will effect your mailing. The good news is it’s a nominal number!

• First Class presorted postage will increase by just under 1¢, or .8¢
• Standard Mail rates will increase by an even smaller amount of .4¢
• Non Profit Standard Mail rates will remain unchanged.

This is only a proposal, but knowing the postal service, it will be approved and go into effect April 17th.
